The Canadian Muslim Forum Welcomes the Supreme Court’s Decision to Hear Appeal of Bill 21

The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) welcomes the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision to hear the appeal of Bill 21, a law that has had far-reaching consequences for many Quebecers, particularly girls and women. While recognizing that the path ahead is still long and challenging, this decision offers a glimmer of hope for those who have been enduring the painful impacts of the law.

FMC-CMF stands firm in its belief in the principles of inclusive secularism, which ensures that no government or institution can base its decisions on any particular doctrine. This vision of secularism is one that allows all members of society the freedom of choice, belief, and religion—values that are enshrined in the Charters of Rights and Freedoms of both Quebec and Canada.

In addition, FMC-CMF would like to emphasize that Quebec society remains open, inclusive, and committed to values of equality, justice, and fairness. Quebecers and Canadians reject discrimination under any guise and uphold the principles that promote respect and dignity for all individuals, regardless of their background or beliefs.

The FMC-CMF remains resolute in its advocacy for the rights and freedoms of individuals in Quebec and Canada, and looks forward to the opportunity to engage in discussions that promote greater understanding and solidarity across all communities.
